From old vines on the cool slopes of the Helderberg Mountain, where the maritime influence keeps things fresh and the iron-rich soils push the wine towards graphite and herb rather than heat and jam. Indigenous yeast fermentation, extended maceration and 20 months in 500-litre French oak. Cassis, tarragon, cedar and pencil shavings, with silky tannins and the kind of structured elegance that rewards patience. A unique and monumental wine that goes greatly with Thai neua op wunsen and Japanese wagyu sukiyaki.

Description

The prestige project from Chris and Andrea Mullineux and partner Analjit Singh, created to honour the heritage of great Cape fine wine. While Mullineux focuses on the Swartland, Leeu Passant reaches beyond it to source from older vineyards across the Western Cape, making wines inspired by the classic South African clarets of decades past.
