Named after the tufa-rich hill where the grapes grow, this is a blend of Montepulciano and the native Lazio variety Cesanese, macerated on skins and aged in stainless steel to keep it fresh and honest. Ripe red fruit, violets, dried herbs and a volcanic mineral thread running through it all, with smooth tannins and a savoury finish. Brilliant with Thai pad kra pao or a Korean dubu jorim.

Description

On the volcanic slopes of the Lepini Mountains south of Rome, Marco Carpineti has spent decades rescuing nearly-forgotten native grape varieties from obscurity. One of the first estates in Italy to gain organic certification, his philosophy is simple: look to the past for the future, and let the ancient tufa soils of Cori do the talking.
