NDV stands for Nero d’Avola, the Sicilian red variety that Brad grafted onto Shiraz vines on the organic Omensetter estate after a trip to Sicily changed everything. Fermented wild and aged six months on skins in locally made beeswax-lined clay amphoras from an Adelaide potter, this is the kind of wine that makes you rethink what South Australia can do. Dark cherry, orange peel, stem ginger and Indian spice, with fine grainy tannins and a savoury finish that lingers. A lovely pairing with Sichuan roast duck or a plate of smoky yakitori.

Description

A Chicagoan who wound his way through Paris, Portland and New York fine dining before landing in McLaren Vale for a vintage in 2007 and deciding not to leave. Brad Hickey got his nickname from the Aussie pruners who welcomed him to the land, and has spent the years since building one of the region’s most original organic estates, with an obsession for making wines that nobody else was making in McLaren Vale.
