Pinot Noir from Vézelay, a cool corner of northern Burgundy that most people walk past on their way to the Côte d’Or. Garance means “deep red” and the wine earns it, with one batch destemmed and one whole cluster before ageing in barrel. Red berries, damp earth, peppery spice and supple tannins, with the juicy drinkability of a great Beaujolais and the bones of a proper Burgundy. A brilliant bottle of Burgundy to pour with Japanese chicken karaage or Vietnamese bun cha.

Description

Raised by two winemaking parents in Vézelay, northern Burgundy, Valentin Montanet grew up with his hands in the soil before heading off to study viticulture and gain experience aronud the world. He came back in 2010 to take over the domaine his mother Catherine founded from the family’s organic vineyards, and has been making some of the most characterful village-level Burgundy around ever since.
